Courtyard Modern
Randy Angell DesignsThis project is proof that the challenges posed by limited space and accessibility can always be overcome in order to deliver stunning results. The space itself was rather small and also very close to the neighboring residence. Not only was the neighboring wall imposing, it was also of a completely different design style.
The goal here was to create a layering effect with numerous features of varying heights. Not only would this add depth and dimension to the overall design, but it would cause the viewer to shift their focus from the encroaching wall to the beauty of the pool space.
Instead of trying to maximize the water area by squaring off the pool, I decided to instead maximize the visual interest by gracefully rounding off the back wall of the pool. This was accomplished by implementing a raised stucco wall, and also a shorter, matching curved wall, featuring a «Sheer Descent» waterfall.
Inside the taller, deep-plum stucco wall, I created three vertical windows which are all highlighted by LED uplighting. To give depth, dimension and some natural beauty, I implemented a simple bed of Horse Tail Reeds behind the short wall, and chose to place Banana Trees behind the taller wall.
The main seating area is just outside the home’s master suite, and is separated by a «Leuder» limestone fire pit. Aside from being a striking design feature, the floating stepper pads accomplish a number of things; they serve triple-duty as a walkway, a seating area adjacent to the fire pit, and also as a poolside rest for beverages.
After discovering that the narrow courtyard acted as a sort of wind tunnel between the two houses, we opted to install tempered glass in order to better control the behavior of the flames. This solved the problem while remaining visually pleasing to the client as well.
You’ll notice in some of the leading photos for this project that I had originally intended to implement stepper pads on both sides of the pool closest to the house. And despite a thorough understanding of what would be necessary on an engineering and structural-design basis, we were eventually forced to turn this into a solid deck due to unrelenting city-required setbacks. However the client remained very understanding due to encountering a number of similar issues in their home-build process.
In the end, they were delivered an outstanding pool design that had come to fruition only after coming up with numerous solutions to a number of challenges that only a unique space like this could provide.

Azalea — The New American Home
WAYCOOL Homes, LLCAzalea is The 2021 New American Home as commissioned by the National Association of Home Builders and was featured and shown at the International Builders Show and in Florida Design Magazine, Volume 22; No. 4; Issue 24-12. With 4,335 square foot of air conditioned space and a total under roof square footage of 5,643 this home has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and two half bathrooms. It was designed and constructed to achieve the highest level of “green” certification while still including sophisticated technology such as retractable window shades, motorized glass doors and a high-tech surveillance system operable just by the touch of an iPad or iPhone. This showcase residence has been deemed an “urban-suburban” home and happily dwells among single family homes and condominiums. The two story home brings together the indoors and outdoors in a seamless blend with motorized doors opening from interior space to the outdoor space. Two separate second floor lounge terraces also flow seamlessly from the inside. The front door opens to an interior lanai, pool, and deck while floor-to-ceiling glass walls reveal the indoor living space. An interior art gallery wall is an entertaining masterpiece and is completed by a wet bar at one end with a separate powder room. The open kitchen welcomes guests to gather and when the floor to ceiling retractable glass doors are open the great room and lanai flow together as one cohesive space. A summer kitchen takes the hospitality poolside.

Modern Luxury in Alys Beach, FL
E. F. San JuanThis project called for a very modern interior with minimal visible wooden millwork, save for a few focal points such as the spectacular interior doors built by E. F. San Juan. We also supplied Loewen windows and exterior doors and custom E. F. San Juan Invincia™ impact-rated wooden entry door systems.
Challenges: The interior doors were the greatest design challenge of this project. Interior designer Cindy Meador and the homeowners envisioned very modern, flush, European-style doors made of rich walnut with veneers for the bedrooms and bathrooms. The original design called for a brass inlay border to separate the horizontal panel veneers from the stiles and rails of the door; however, after some discussion, it became clear that this would not create the most stable construction to stand the test of time and use.
Solution: We worked with the team to determine that a white maple inlay would create the desired contrast and enhance the all-wood simplicity of the door design. The most challenging part of building these doors was the time-consuming process of laminating the veneers and incorporating the maple inlay. As you can see from the photos, the entries become art displays along with the other beautiful art pieces that Cindy and the owners have incorporated into the home’s interior design.
The Loewen windows and exterior doors are sleek and fit well with the home’s modern feel. These windows and
doors, along with the sizable Invincia® main entry door built by our team, are made to impact-rated standards that will fortify the home and its occupants against the Gulf Coast elements.
The completed home is a masterpiece by architect Tom Christ, interior designer Cindy Meador, and the Davis
Dunn Construction team. The team here at E. F. San Juan was honored to be a part of it and we are proud of our
artistic contribution. The residence has been featured in national publications such as VIE magazine as well as
the Alys Gazette.

Suburban Oasis
Western DuPage Landscaping, Inc.This partially wooded, acre and a half lot in West Dundee presented many challenges.
The clients began working with a Landscape Architect in the early spring, but after not getting the innovative ideas they were seeking, the home builder and Architect suggested the client contact our landscape design/build firm. We immediately hit it off with the charismatic clients. They had a tall order for us: complete the design and implement the construction within a three month period. For many projects this would be a reasonable time frame. However construction delays and the coordination of multiple trades left a very short window to complete the work.
Beyond the tight time frame the site required specific care in preserving the many mature surrounding trees, as well as addressing a vast grade change. Over fifteen feet of grade change occurs from one end of this woodland property to the other.
All of these constraints proved to be an enormous challenge as we worked to include and coordinate the following elements: the drive layout, a dramatic front entry, various gardens, landscape lighting, irrigation, and a plan for a backyard pool and entertainment space that already had been started without a clear plan.
Fortunately, the client loved our design ideas and attention to detail and we were able to mobilize and begin construction. With the seamless coordination between our firm and the builder we implemented all the elements of this grand project. In total eight different crews and five separate trades worked together to complete the landscape.
The completed project resulted in a rewarding experience for our firm, the builder and architect, as well as the client. Together we were able to create and construct a perfect oasis for the client that suited the beautiful property and the architecture of this dream home.

Pool project by Natucer
NatucerEl estudio de arquitectura Grupo Picad junto a la empresa Vipecons situadas en la provincia de Castellón, han sido las encargadas de rehabilitar de la zona de la terraza y de crear una nueva piscina y cuarto de baño en esta vivienda particular. Los materiales para la restauración de la terraza, creación de la piscina y cuarto de baño, han sido suministrados por Natucer.
Para la zona de la terraza, se ha elegido la madera porcelánica extruida perteneciente a la serie Tech Rail Aspen y con formato 21×60 cm. El exterior de la piscina ha sido rematado con el peldaño angular y vierteaguas disponibles en esta colección. Esta madera porcelánica antideslizante, es una buena elección a la hora de colocar en terrazas porque presenta su máxima eficacia en espacios exteriores y de altas exigencias técnicas.
Para el vaso de la piscina se ha utilizado el barro porcelánico Tech Land Basalt y formato 22,5×30 cm, que aporta toque más urbano y versátil a la estancia. La piscina consta de una escalera interior, realizada con el peldaño curvo de la colección Tech Land Basalt y un banco interior que ocupa todo el muro frontal, el cual muestra dos inserciones en forma de cascada que producen un ambiente natural en el que poder sentarse y relajarse. El muro ha sido creado con el formato 11×22,5 cm de la serie Tech Land Basalt, mientras que el banco está compuesto por el peldaño curvo y la baldosa cerámica de la colección Tech Land Basalt en el formato 11×22,5 cm. Esta baldosa revela un acabado especial al haber sido eliminada la rugosidad característica del producto antideslizante, obteniendo una superficie fina y suave al tacto. Además estas baldosas presentan un efecto antibacteriano, gracias al Oxígeno Activo que se produce tras la incidencia de la luz, que hace que toda la materia orgánica que caiga sobre la superficie se convierta en materia inerte que será arrastrada sin dificultad por el agua.
Finalmente con la colección Tempo se ha revestido el cuarto de baño, utilizando las baldosas Tempo Atlantic 7×45 cm, Tempo Rice 22,5×45 cm y la decoración Tempo Lines Atlantic 10×10 cm. And despite a thorough understanding of what would be necessary on an engineering and structural-design basis, we were eventually forced to turn this into a solid deck due to unrelenting city-required setbacks. However the client remained very understanding due to encountering a number of similar issues in their home-build process.
In the end, they were delivered an outstanding pool design that had come to fruition only after coming up with numerous solutions to a number of challenges that only a unique space like this could provide.

Courtyard Modern
Randy Angell DesignsThis project is proof that the challenges posed by limited space and accessibility can always be overcome in order to deliver stunning results. The space itself was rather small and also very close to the neighboring residence. Not only was the neighboring wall imposing, it was also of a completely different design style.
The goal here was to create a layering effect with numerous features of varying heights. Not only would this add depth and dimension to the overall design, but it would cause the viewer to shift their focus from the encroaching wall to the beauty of the pool space.
Instead of trying to maximize the water area by squaring off the pool, I decided to instead maximize the visual interest by gracefully rounding off the back wall of the pool. This was accomplished by implementing a raised stucco wall, and also a shorter, matching curved wall, featuring a «Sheer Descent» waterfall.
Inside the taller, deep-plum stucco wall, I created three vertical windows which are all highlighted by LED uplighting. To give depth, dimension and some natural beauty, I implemented a simple bed of Horse Tail Reeds behind the short wall, and chose to place Banana Trees behind the taller wall.
The main seating area is just outside the home’s master suite, and is separated by a «Leuder» limestone fire pit. Aside from being a striking design feature, the floating stepper pads accomplish a number of things; they serve triple-duty as a walkway, a seating area adjacent to the fire pit, and also as a poolside rest for beverages.
After discovering that the narrow courtyard acted as a sort of wind tunnel between the two houses, we opted to install tempered glass in order to better control the behavior of the flames. This solved the problem while remaining visually pleasing to the client as well.
You’ll notice in some of the leading photos for this project that I had originally intended to implement stepper pads on both sides of the pool closest to the house. Новый эко-квартал с фонтаном, бассейном и парящим мостом появится в районе марфино
Свыше двух гектар благоустроенной и озелененной территории появится в рамках реализации нового жилого эко-квартала VERY на Ботанической улице, вл. 29 (СВАО). Об этом сообщила Председатель Москомстройинвеста Анастасия Пятова. Инвестором и девелопером проекта выступает ГК «Основа».
В марте этого года ООО «Специализированный застройщик «Останкино» выдано разрешение на строительство первой очереди проекта в составе двух жилых домов со встроенно-пристроенными помещениями и спортивного комплекса с бассейном общей площадью свыше 78 300 кв. метров.
Новый проект бизнес-класса возводится на территории бывшей гостиницы «Останкино» на участке 2,89 га, из которых лишь 23% будет отдано под здания. Остальную территорию займет двухуровневое благоустройство и озеленение.
Всего в рамках жилого квартала будет построено 4 жилых дома высотой 31 этаж на общем стилобате, где на первых этажах разместится необходимая социальная инфраструктура. Также проектом предусмотрено строительство отдельностоящего двухэтажного спортивного комплекса с бассейном. Для семей с маленькими детьми в VERY появится встроенно-пристроенный детский сад на 100 мест. Особенностью проекта станет отреставрированный пятиэтажный гостиничный корпус.
«Большую роль авторы будущего эко-квартала отводят благоустройству и озеленению, которое займет 77% территории. Всего здесь будет высажено более 1 000 кустарников и деревьев. В центре двора-парка инвестор планирует создать площадь с фонтаном и большой елью. Яркая деталь проекта – парящий прогулочный мост длиной более 200 метров, с горками и смотровыми площадками, а также другие элементы благоустройства», — рассказала Анастасия Пятова.
В компании застройщика также сообщили, что всего на территории жилого комплекса построят 5 детских площадок с качелями, канатной дорогой, детскими городками и т. д. «Также здесь будут 2 большие спортивные зоны с площадками для игры в волейбол, баскетбол, мини-футбол и зонами фитнеса, воркаута и многое другое. Общая площадь этих площадок составит 2 500 кв. метров», — уточнили в компании инвестора. Вместе с тем по периметру всего двора будет сделана велосипедная дорожка протяженностью почти 1 километр.
Всего в 4-х жилых домах будет представлено 1 456 квартир различной планировки. На -1 уровне расположится подземный паркинг на 631 машино-место и 330 индивидуальных кладовых помещений для жильцов. Все лифты из жилой части спускаются в паркинг.
